Express INF Davis Wendzel Named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Round Rock Express INF Davis Wendzel was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for May 22-28, as announced by Minor League Baseball on Monday afternoon. Wendzel takes home the award after going 10-for-19 with three doubles, four home runs, eight RBI, 11 runs scored and five walks over five games against the Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado Rockies affiliate) at Isotopes Park.
Wendzel posted a slash line of .526/.640/1.316/1.956 during the week and had a multi-hit game in four of five contests. This month, he is batting .315 (23-for-73) with seven doubles, six home runs, 15 RBI, 14 runs scored, 12 walks and 15 strikeouts. He has posted multiple hits in six of his last eight games played.
The righty started the week by celebrating his 26th birthday on May 23 in Albuquerque. The night, he went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, one run scored and a walk. On May 24, Wendzel put together his lone three-hit game of the week by going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored.
Round Rock earned their first win of the series on May 25 when they collected 20 hits en route to an 18-6 victory. Wendzel played his part by going 2-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI, three runs scored and two walks. His five RBI were a career high and it was his first multi-homer game since August 12, 2022.
On May 27, the right-hander went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, an RBI, three runs scored and a walk. He closed out the week on May 28 with a 1-for-3 showing that included two runs scored and a walk.
The Irvine, California native was a first-round selection by the Texas Rangers in the 2019 MLB Draft. Wendzel was selected out of Baylor University, where he was named the 2019 Big 12 Co-Player of the Year.
Round Rock returns home to take on the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Houston Astros affiliate) on Tuesday, May 30 from Dell Diamond. Express RHP Robert Dugger (1-3, 4.50) is set to make the start against Space Cowboys RHP Jayden Murray (2-4, 8.45) pitcher to be announced. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.
