The Reno Aces (20-27) beat the Fresno Grizzlies (28-19) 5-2 Wednesday morning from Chukchansi Park. Reno starter Taylor Clarke (5-5) hurled five and two-thirds scoreless frames en route to the win. He allowed one hit, on three walks while striking out six. The lone hit off Clarke came off the bat of Tyler White (2-for-3), who extended his 2018 on-base streak to 44 straight games and 55 consecutive dating back to 2017. Grizzlies' starter Josh James (0-2) suffered the loss in his first Triple-A home start. He tossed four and one-third innings, scattering three hits, two runs (earned), walking a pair and fanning three.
Christian Walker (2-for-5) jump started the Reno offense in the top of the first when he destroyed a pitch to left field. His third longball of the season made it 1-0. Walker added another RBI in the top of the fifth when he laced a single to right, plating Jack Reinheimer (2-for-4). The Aces expanded the advantage to 5-0 in the top of the sixth when Cody Decker hit a sacrifice fly to right field. Then, Reinheimer floated a double into center field, scoring Kevin Cron. Finally, a wild pitch allowed Evan Marzilli to scamper home.
Kyle Tucker cut the deficit to 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth when he belted a two-run shot to dead center. It was his fifth big fly of the season.
Despite the first two batters reaching in the ninth, Jimmie Sherfy finished off Fresno with a pair of punchouts and a popup. The 5-2 win notched his eighth save of the year.
Buddy Boshers twirled one and one-third innings of relief, striking out two in the defeat.
Both teams finish the four-game set Thursday night from Chukchansi Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PT with pre-game starting at 6:45 PT on milb.streamguys1.com/fresnogrizzlies. Fresno has not announced a starter while Reno RHP Troy Scribner (2-2, 5.74) gets the nod.
