Reynolds belts game-winner, completes comeback win for Curve

CURVE, Pa. - A three-run, walk-off homer by Bryan Reynolds sent the Altoona Curve to an 8-7 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and finished a back and forth battle on Thursday at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Tyler Gaffney (hit-by-pitch) and Cole Tucker (walk) each climbed aboard with the Curve (54-46) trailing by two runs in the ninth inning to set up the game-winning shot by Reynolds. Prior to the late-game heroics to beat the Rumble Ponies (48-55), the lead changed hands five times and the game was tied on three occasions.

Trailing 6-4 in the eighth inning, Will Craig slugged his 18th homer of the year, a solo shot to left, to inch the Curve within one run and added to his league-best RBI total (81).

Christian Kelley gave Altoona their first lead of the night on a two-run single in the fourth. Binghamton quickly responded with two more in the fifth to regain the advantage. The Curve tied the ballgame, 3-3, when relief pitcher Sean Keselica drove in Alfredo Reyes , who doubled to start the fifth, with an RBI single. Kelley doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to boost the Curve to a 4-3 lead.

Binghamton's bats jumped on Nick Burdi for one run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to charge a blown save to the reliever on a Major League rehab assignment. The Rumble Ponies tied the contest, 4-4, when Tomás Nido bounced into a double play with the bases loaded and no outs. In the eighth, the Mets' top prospect Andrés Giménez smacked a go-ahead, two-run single that boosted Binghamton to a 6-4 lead over the Curve.
All eight position players for Binghamton had at least one hit as the Rumble Ponies had at least one baserunner in eight of nine innings during a 15-hit performance. Patrick Biondi had a game-high four hits and knocked home two runs, the first run of the game in the fourth facing Austin Coley and extended Binghamton's lead to 7-5 in the ninth inning against Yeudy Garcia (Win, 2-4). Keselica's 1-2-3 sixth frame was the lone inning without a runner on base for the Rumble Ponies.
The walk-off win for the Curve is the fifth of the season and the first walk-off homer since Mitchell Tolman on the final day of the 2017 regular season.
The Curve and Rumble Ponies continue their four-game series on Friday with left-hander Taylor Hearn (3-5, 3.03) pitching for Altoona opposed by Binghamton right-hander Mickey Jannis (6-5, 4.61).
