RHP Andrew Thurman Promoted to Triple-A El Paso

The 34-year-old will make his second stint with El Paso after pitching for the Chihuahuas earlier this season

EL PASO – August 6, 2026 – The San Diego Padres have promoted right-handed pitcher Andrew Thurman to Triple-A El Paso.

Thurman, 34, started the season with the Double-A San Antonio Missions, amassing a 2-6 record and a 5.71 ERA. Over the course of 25 appearances, six of which were starts, he struck out 60 batters in 58.1 innings pitched.

Thurman will be making his second stint with El Paso after being promoted earlier this season. He made his Triple-A debut on April 16 against the Round Rock Express at Dell Diamond, allowing three runs in a relief outing.

After making 18 relief appearances to begin the season, he has started six of his last seven outings. Thurman picked up the win and pitched a quality start on July 25 against the Frisco RoughRiders. He struck out a career-high 10 batters over a season-high 6.0 innings.

Last season, Thurman pitched for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He posted a 7-2 record with a 4.94 ERA across 25 starts, while striking out 128 batters in 125.2 innings. It marked his first season back in professional baseball since 2017, when he was in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ organization.

He ranked among the best pitchers in the Atlantic League and was tied-1st in games started (25), 3rd in strikeouts (128), 4th in batters faced (552), and 5th in innings pitched (125.2). While with the Blue Crabs, Thurman pitched under manager Stan Cliburn, who played for the El Paso Diablos in 1978. He also played alongside former Chihuahua Jason Blanchard, who pitched in El Paso for part of the 2025 season.

Thurman was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros out of UC Irvine. In addition to the Padres’ organization, he has pitched in the Astros, Braves, and Dodgers’ systems.

He is expected to make his first Triple-A start on Thursday, August 6, in Reno.

The Chihuahuas’ 2026 season continues Thursday, August 6, in Reno for game three of a six-game series between the El Paso Chihuahuas (9-25, 44-65) and the Reno Aces (19-16, 51-59).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Mountain Time at Greater Nevada Field in Reno, NV. The game will air on 600 ESPN El Paso and www.epchihuahuas.com.
