Richmond, VA - Miguel Gómez and Jerry Sands hit back-to-back homers in the first inning, accounting for all the runs, as the Richmond Flying Squirrels (33-29) beat the Portland Sea Dogs (22-41), 3-0 on Wednesday night at the Diamond.

Richmond began the rally with a one-out walk in the first by C.J. Hinojosa. Gomez cracked a two-run homer to right field, and Sands hit a solo shot to left field. Portland righty Teddy Stankiewicz (L, 5-6) worked six innings on seven hits, three runs, three walks and two strikeouts.
Former UMaine standout Mike Connolly (3-2) earned the win for the Richmond, working two innings of relief. Flying Squirrels starter Chase Johnson pitched four innings on four hits and six strikeouts. Will LaMarche earned a hold with two scoreless frames, and Dillon McNamara pitched the ninth for his fifth save. Portland fanned a season-high 16 times.
Jhon Nunez tied a season high by going 3-for-3. Josh Ockimey went 2-for-4 with a double in his return to the lineup. Johnny Bladel made his debut in affiliated-baseball and went 1-for-3.
Daniel McGrath relieved Stankiewicz and worked two scoreless on just one hit. Jordan Betts and Luke Tendler each had singles for the 'Dogs.
The Sea Dogs and Richmond Flying Squirrels (Giants affiliate) conclude their three-game series with a 6:35 start on Thursday night at the Diamond. Portland sends RHP Mike Shawaryn (2-5, 3.41) to the mound against Richmond's RHP Shaun Anderson (5-2, 3.07)
