Tidewater's top pitching prospect, Ron Darling, is no match for Columbus on this day. Darling enters the game with an ERA of 2.86, but is lit up for 12 runs in 4 1/3 innings. Mattingly leads the way for the Clippers, blasting a home run and driving in four. Steve Balboni, Mike Patterson, and Mike Hart also go deep for Columbus. Despite the offensive outburst, the game takes just 2 hours and 59 minutes to complete. The 19-run victory is the largest in Columbus' IL history. The Tides, however, would get their revenge in the postseason. Tidewater ended the Clippers' string of three straight Governors' Cup Championships by sweeping Columbus in the first round before going on to defeat Rochester for the title.
