River Bandits Secure Fifth-Straight Series Win in Final Regular Season Home Game

Davenport, Iowa – The Quad Cities River Bandits (67-54, 37-21) won their fifth consecutive series and their 12th this season in front of their largest crowd of the summer Sunday, defeating the Beloit Sky Carp (63-62, 36-24) 8-4 for 6,926 fans at Modern Woodmen Park.

Though Cody Schrier’s first-inning solo homer yielded the game’s first run to Beloit, Quad Cities took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first after Austin Charles was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Erick Torres brought home a pair with a two-run single.

The Sky Carp tied the game against Triple-A rehabilitation starter John Means in the second via Brian Sanchez’s sacrifice-fly and Dillon Head’s RBI-single. Means allowed three runs on four hits, one walk, and one strikeout in what was scheduled to be his final appearance for Quad Cities.

After Means’ departure, Tanner Jones held Beloit without a run and to just two baserunners during his bulk-relief effort.

Chris Brito broke the 3-3 tie in the fifth with an RBI-double off Sky Carp reliever Jesus Rios in the fifth before Charles’ (solo) and Ramon Ramirez (three-run) launched homers in the sixth against Brayan Mendoza to blast the Bandits up 8-3.

Beloit plated a run in the seventh against Dash Albus on Sanchez’s second sacrifice-fly of the game, but the unearned run was the only blemish on the lefty-hander’s 2.0-inning line.

Yimi Presinal closed out the game with a one-two-three top of the ninth.

Jones (5-6) earned the win for Quad Cities, striking out four along the way, while Rios (5-7) was tagged with the loss for Beloit after tossing one frame out of the Sky Carp bullpen.

With a 2.0-game lead on first place in the Midwest League West Division, the River Bandits are on the road for their final series of the season, a six-game set against the Peoria Chiefs beginning Tuesday, September 1 at Dozer Park.
