ROUND ROCK, Texas - Sacramento River Cats left-hander Conner Menez has been named the Pacific Coast League's Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 28-June 3, 2018, the League office announced Monday.
In only his second career Triple-A start, and two days after his 23rd birthday, Menez tossed seven shutout innings on May 31 at El Paso. He surrendered only one hit, one walk, struck out eight and faced just two batters over the minimum, throwing 64 of his 99 pitches for strikes. The lone hit he allowed was a one out single in the fifth inning; he retired the next eight batters to finish off his outing.
Aside from this week's start for Sacramento and another on April 12, Menez has spent the season with the Single-A San Jose Giants. He has made nine starts for the Giants, posting a 3.83 ERA (44.2 IP, 19 ER) with 67 strikeouts to just 16 walks. This is his third year in San Francisco's system after getting selected by the Giants in the 14th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of The Master's College (CA). The southpaw is 14-12 with a 4.19 ERA (223.1 IP, 104 ER) in 49 career appearances (41 starts). This is his first career Pitcher of the Week award.
