RiverDogs Shutout Tourists Behind Outstanding Pitching

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston RiverDogs put together their best pitching performance of the season with a combined two-hit shutout, 4-0, against the Asheville Tourists on Wednesday in front of a crowd of 2,547 at Joe Riley Park.
Southpaw Dalton Lehnen (2-1) continued his strong campaign, allowing Asheville's (8-16) only two hits in his five shutout innings. The RiverDogs' (12-14) starter racked up nine strikeouts in the victory without walking a batter, dropping his ERA to 1.95.
Lehnen hadn't gotten much run support this year with the team scoring a combined 11 runs in his first four outings. On Wednesday, however, Charleston gave Lehnen all the breathing room he needed with a pair of runs in each the fourth and fifth frames.

Center fielder Pablo Olivares led the charge for the Holy City offense. The Venezuelan outfielder went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, and he now has nine hits in six home games with Charleston.
Designated hitter Ricardo Ferreira also added a triple, RBI, and scored a run out of the nine hole. Wilkerman Garcia and Oswaldo Cabrera each drove in a run after going hitless in the series opener on Tuesday.
Brian Trieglaff (H, 2) and Matt Wivinis were each unhittable out of the pen. A hit batsman was the lone blemish in the Trieglaff's otherwise perfect line as the righty threw three hitless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Wivinis couldn't notch another save to add to his league-leading total, but the reliever did strike out the side to end the ballgame.
After Charleston relievers allowed multiple runs in six of eight ballgames to end April, they have gotten back on track to begin May with 6 2/3 innings and no earned runs. The Dogs' bullpen ERA sunk to 1.65 with their four shutout innings on Wednesday.

The RiverDogs donned the 1994 teal and purple uniforms on another "Way Back Wednesday" presented by Kirkman Broadcasting. Fan enjoyed discounted tickets and a special appearance from Mitch Hilligoss. The 2007 RiverDog broke current Charleston hitting coach Scott Seabol's South Atlantic League hit streak record, when Hilligoss collected a knock in 38 consecutive games in his lone year in Charleston.

The rubber match and series finale between the RiverDogs and visiting Tourists will start at 7:05 on Thursday.
