Syracuse, New York (September 16, 2026) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (32-38, 67-78) erased an early 4-1 deficit, rallying to tie the game, but the Syracuse Mets (40-30, 78-67) had the final say in the eventual 5-4 loss for the ‘Pigs on Wednesday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
The ‘Pigs started the scoring straight away as Keaton Anthony singled home the game’s first run in the top of the first inning. The Mets clapped right back however, scoring a pair in the last of the first on a Ronny Mauricio RBI double and Eric Wagaman RBI single.
Jefferson Rojas doubled the Mets total as he swatted a two-run homer in the second to make it 4-1.
Robert Moore started the comeback trail for the ‘Pigs with a two-run homer in the fifth and Anthony brought the ‘Pigs back to level with an RBI double in the sixth.
Ryan Clifford broke the tie straight away though, as he hit a solo homer in the last of the sixth to put the Mets up for good.
Kevin Herget (W, 1-0) worked 1.2 scoreless innings of relief to get the win for the Mets while Michael Mercado (L, 4-5) took the loss for the ‘Pigs after allowing Clifford’s go-ahead homer.
Chayce McDermott (S, 1) struck out a pair in a scoreless ninth to convert the save for Syracuse.
The ‘Pigs and Mets continue their series on Thursday, September 17th with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium. Chuck King gets the ball for the ‘Pigs against Jack Wenninger for Syracuse.
