The Harrisburg Senators fell 13-5 in the series opener to the Akron RubberDucks Monday night at Canal Park. Victor Robles finished a triple shy of the cycle and extended his hitting streak to ten games in the loss.
The Senators struck first as Robles hit the second pitch of the game from Akron starter Matt Esparza off the center field wall, and he was able circle the bases for an inside-the-park home run. It's the first Senators inside-the-park home run since Shawn Pleffner knocked one on July 16, 2016. One batter later, José Marmolejos reached second on a dropped fly ball by the left-fielder Luigi Rodriguez and Dan Gamache drove him home with an RBI single center to give the Senators a 2-0 advantage.
Akron came back to take the lead in the bottom of the inning against Senators starter Greg Ross. After an error allowed Joe Sever to reach, the 'Ducks knocked three consecutive doubles by Francisco Mejía, Bobby Bradley and Yu Chang to plate three runs. Following a groundout, Mike Papi hit an RBI single to center to score the fourth run of the inning, making it 4-2 Akron.
Jose Marmolejos erased that lead in the top of the second. After a walk by Stephen Perez and single by Corban Joseph, Marmolejos launched a three-run home run to right to vault the Senators to a 5-4 lead.
The Ducks retook the lead in the third when Bradley hit a two-run home run. They would go on to plat seven more runs in innings four through seven, highlighted by a home run by Mejia and three bases loaded walks to expand the lead to 13-5.
That would be the final score as the Senators were held scoreless after the second inning.
Ross (4-3) took the loss as he allowed nine runs, seven earned, on nine hits in three and a third innings.
Akron reliever Robbie Aviles (5-4) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win.
Robles finished 3-4 and a triple shy of the cycle while expanding his hitting streak ten games. The 20-year-old has finished with multiple hits in five consecutive games and seven of the ten games during the streak.
The Senators try to even the three-game series Tuesday night. Brady Dragmire starts for the Senators opposite 'Ducks starter Shao-Ching Chang. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Canal Park.
