Midland, Texas — The Sod Poodles fell to the Midland RockHounds on Sunday afternoon at Momentum Bank Ballpark, as the RockHounds erased a 10-0 deficit with a 10-run eighth inning. Midland scored a run in the bottom of the tenth to win the finale of a six-game series, 11-10.

Prior to Midland's surge, the Sod Poodles received terrific performances on the mound and at the plate.

Amarillo starter Ryne Nelson went six strong innings, allowing no runs on just two hits. Nelson struck out eight and walked four.

Offensively, the Sod Poodles scored in six separate innings. Amarillo took a 1-0 lead in the first on Luis Basabe's RBI double against RockHounds starter Kyle Friedrichs. The Sod Poodles scored three more in the third against Friedrichs, including an RBI double from Stone Garrett and RBI triple from Buddy Kennedy.

After scoring two more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead, Buddy Kennedy belted a solo homer to left field off righty Aiden McIntyre.

With the Soddies leading 7-0 in the seventh, they collected three more runs against Midland righty Jack Weisenburger. Basabe hit another run-scoring double, while Kennedy crushed his second home run. Kennedy's two-run shot to left field gave Amarillo a 10-0 advantage.

The ballgame turned in the bottom half of the eighth, as Midland rallied for 10 runs. The inning started with three straight hits off righty Shumpei Yoshikawa, who was making his Sod Poodles debut. Kyle McCann doubled off Yoshikawa to make it 10-3, while a wild pitch brought in a run to cut Amarillo's lead to 10-4.

Yoshikawa was replaced by righty Blake Workman, who surrendered a three-run homer to RockHounds catcher Collin Therioux. The score was 10-7.

Midland proceeded to receive an RBI single from Jonah Bride and game-tying two-run double from JJ Schwarz. The RockHounds had tied the game at 10-10.

After the Soddies could not score in top of the tenth, the RockHounds won the game on Mickey McDonald's bases loaded walk-off single in the bottom half.

The Sod Poodles return home to HODGETOWN on Tuesday evening to begin a six-game series against the Frisco RoughRiders. The game is also the opener of a 12-game homestand. First pitch at 7:05 p.m.
