South Bend led the Snappers three different times in Monday's series finale, but J.C. Rodriguez belted a one-out, 1-1 pitch beyond the left field wall to complete Beloit's second sweep of the season. Rodriguez has homered in back-to-back games to deliver the Snappers their seventh walk-off win of the campaign and the first walk-off home run of the season. Chris Iriart hit Beloit's last walk-off homer on August 1, 2016. The Cubs outhit Beloit 16-11 while both squads committed six errors and exchanged runs in five consecutive half-innings.
The Snappers defense made three outs at home including an incredible barehanded catch and throw home by Josh Vidales in the ninth to keep the game tied 6-6. Vidales recorded his first RBI with Beloit to help the Snappers overcome a 6-3 deficit in the sixth inning. He brought home Collin Theroux with a single to left, but Cubs left fielder Kevonte Mitchell fumbled the grounder to give JaVon Shelby time to speed home for the tying run.
Theroux tied the game the first time with a two-run double into the left field corner in the fourth. Vidales, Rodriguez, Miguel Mercedes, and Kyle Nowlin all finished with multiple hits in the game as Nowlin finished the homestand 7-for-13 at the plate. Kyle Twomey tossed 4 2/3 innings against his former club before giving way to Mitchell Jordan as each surrendered three runs. South Bend had six players record more than one hit as all nine players had at least one.
Beloit finishes inter-division play with a 14-9 record against the Eastern Division in 2017 and a winning record against the other side of the league for the first time since 2014. The Snappers now own 15 last at-bat victory this season and are now 34-7 in contests they score at least five runs.
