RubberDucks Beat Patriots 9-2

Bridgewater, NJ – The Akron RubberDucks (31-24) defeated the Somerset Patriots (34-20) by a final score of 9–2 before a season-high crowd of 8,003 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night.

Micah Pries (7) got the scoring started right away with a three-run home run to right field in the top of the first.

Jonathan Engelmann (3) extended the lead in the top of the third with a solo shot to left field to give the RubberDucks a 4-0 lead.

The Patriots cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double by Elijah Dunham that scored Anthony Volpe and Oliver Dunn to make the score 4-2.

Akron answered the next inning after Bo Naylor scored on a balk and George Valera singled home Brayan Rocchio.

Valera struck again in the sixth with an RBI double and was followed by a Naylor (4) solo homer in the top of the eighth that gave the RubberDucks an 8-2 advantage.

Pries (8) added a final insurance run in the top of the ninth with his second homer of night, this time a solo home run, that capped the score at 9-2.

Xzavion Curry (4-2) allowed two earned runs and struck out 12 batters through seven innings for the win. Mitch Spence (2-3) allowed six earned runs and struck out four batters across 3.2 frames in the loss.

The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday, June 11 with a 7:05 pm game against the RubberDucks at TD Bank Ballpark.
