Summary

The Erie SeaWolves scored five runs in the fourth to beat the Akron RubberDucks 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at UPMC Park.

Turning Point

Trailing 1-0 entering the inning, Erie’s offense came alive in the fourth. Back-to-back homers by Stephen Hrustich (three-run homer) and Viandel Pena (solo homer) highlighted the five-run inning that put the SeaWolves ahead 5-1.

Mound Presence

Sean Matson made his second start of the season on Sunday. The right-hander was cruising allowing just two hits through the first three innings before running into trouble in the fourth. In total, Matson allowed five runs over 3.1 innings while striking out three. Dylan DeLucia struck out four over 2.2 scoreless innings. Zach Jacobs allowed a run in his inning of work. Adam Tulloch struck out three in his scoreless inning.

Duck Tales

Akron jumped ahead of Erie in the third inning. Alex Mooney lined a one-out solo home run off the hockey arena in left to make it 1-0 RubberDucks. After Erie’s big fourth, Akron cut into the deficit in the fifth. Aaron Walton’s single and Mooney’s walk put two on. A flyout moved Walton to third before a groundout scored him. Jaison Chourio lined a single to right to score Mooney to make it 5-3 Erie. Akron tried to rally back in the ninth. Walton doubled before advancing to third on Mooney’s single. Christian Knapczyk lifted a sac-fly to center to score Walton to make it 6-4 SeaWolves, but that is as close as the RubberDucks would get in the series finale.
