Binghamton, NY- Former big league pitcher Blake Beavan, trying to make it back with the New York Mets, held the Hartford Yard Goats to two hits in 7.2 innings, and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies held on for a 1-0 victory over the Hartford Yard Goats Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. It was the Yard Goats' fourth straight loss, while the Rumble Ponies have won seven straight.

The game marked the return of top Colorado Rockies' pitching prospect Yency Almonte and he did not disappoint. Coming off the disabled list and pitching for the first time since May 3, Almonte threw his fastball as high as 97 MPH. The righthander, who threw 61 pitches, hurled four innings, allowing one run on three hits. He walked one and struck out two.
The Rumble Ponies scored the game's only run in the fourth inning, when Almonte hit lead off batter Tomás Nido with a pitch. One out later Kevin Kaczmarski singled Nido to third, where he scored on a sacrifice fly by LJ Mazzilli, the former UCONN player.
Hartford staged its best threat in the eighth inning, when Beavan tired and was lifted with runners at second and third. But reliever Corey Taylor got a strike out and a fly out to center to escape the jam. In the ninth, following a lead off single by Ashley Graeter, Taylor retired the next three batters to secure the victory.
Graeter, Ryan McMahon and Omar Carrizales had the three Hartford hits, as the Yard Goats prepare to face another big league pitcher in their next game in game three of the series Sunday night at 6:35. Righthander Ryan Castellani will pitch for the Yard Goats, against New York Mets pitcher Seth Lugo, who is on a rehabilitation assignment with Binghamton. The game can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and on iHeart radio.
