St. Petersburg, Fla. (May 4, 2023) – Today, Minor League Baseball announced player and pitcher of the month honorees in each of the 11 full-season leagues for April. Sod Poodles infielder, Ryan Bliss, was named Texas League Player of the Month after hitting .410 (34-for-83) in 18 games played.

Bliss’ AVG and hits totals both were tops in the league to go along with leading the league in total bases (52) and was T-1st in triples (2). He ranked T-2nd in doubles (8), was T-3rd in stolen bases (8), runs scored (17), and XBH (12), while being 4th in SLG (.627) and OPS (1.051), and was 10th in OBP (.424).

He recorded 14 multi-hit games and hit safely in 17-of-18 games during the month including a 10-game hit streak to begin the campaign. He is just the second Sod Poodle to earn the Texas League Player/Pitcher of the Month award, joining Leandro Cedeño, who took home the award for August of 2022.

A second-round pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2021 MLB Draft, the former Auburn Tiger has propelled himself back into the D-backs’ top 30 prospect rankings. This is the first award of his professional career. He joined fellow D-backs’ minor leaguer, Phillip Evans, who was awarded the Pacific Coast League Player of the Month with Triple-A Reno. The D-backs were one of three organizations to have multiple players selected (Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants).
