ASHEVILLE- After the Asheville Tourists snapped their losing streak in a home win Tuesday night against the Winston-Salem Dash, they unfortunately dropped Game Two of the series by a final score of 8-3. The Tourists kept the game close for most of the way; however, the Dash were able to plate three insurance runs late to put the contest away.

Asheville was the first to strike and it came in the bottom half of the second inning. Zach Daniels reached base on a leadoff walk. Daniels then stole second, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Luis Guerrero single into left field.

Starting pitcher Chayce McDermott needed thirty-nine pitches to navigate through the top of the first inning, but he did not allow any damage until the top of the third. McDermott surrendered two runs to the Dash, one earned, which came on a sacrifice fly from Adam Hackenberg.

The Tourists bounced back to tie the score at 2-2 when Michael Sandle belted a solo Home Run in the bottom of the third. The Dash recaptured the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth. Asheville’s C.J. Stubbs answered with a solo shot to right centerfield in the bottom of the fourth. Stubbs has homered in six straight home games.

Winston-Salem went on to score the final four runs of the ballgame; one in the fifth and three in the eighth. The Tourists offense was held to one hit over the final five innings.

Christian Mejias pitched four frames out of Asheville’s bullpen in his Tourists debut. Mejias struck out five before turning the game over to Jose Betances for the ninth. Betances worked a scoreless inning in relief.

The Tourists and the Dash will take the field for Game Three of their current six-game series on Thursday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm ET.
