SOUTH BEND, IN – The South Bend Cubs have unveiled a special 40th anniversary logo in celebration of the franchise’s milestone season in 2027. The commemorative design incorporates elements from the team’s rich history, paying tribute to the three distinct eras of professional baseball in Michiana: the South Bend White Sox, South Bend Silver Hawks, and South Bend Cubs.
“We are incredibly excited to celebrate 40 years of baseball at Four Winds Field next year,” said South Bend Cubs Team President Joe Hart. “The ballpark has undergone many changes over the years, including our most recent $48 million renovation. But while the ballpark itself may have changed, our goal remains the same: to make Four Winds Field a place where memories are made all year long.”
As part of the anniversary celebration, the South Bend Cubs are inviting fans to help tell the story of the ballpark by sharing their favorite memories from the past four decades. From unforgettable games and special promotions to family traditions and milestone moments, the organization hopes to highlight the personal connections that have made Four Winds Field a special place in the community.
“I’ve heard countless stories from people who talk about how their families grew up at ‘The Cove,’ and we want to showcase those memories throughout the 2027 season,” said South Bend Cubs Assistant General Manager of Marketing & Media Chris Hagstrom-Jones. “Whether it’s a favorite photograph, an old home video, a treasured piece of memorabilia, or even a scorecard from a memorable game, we want to see it. These stories are part of our history, and we want our fans to help us tell the story of how Four Winds Field has grown alongside our community.”

THE DESIGN: 40 YEARS OF BASEBALL HISTORY
The commemorative logo was developed through a collaboration between the South Bend Cubs marketing team and local Holy Cross College student Nolen Sperring. Every element of the design was carefully selected to honor the franchise’s past while celebrating its present and future.
Circular Badge: Inspired by the South Bend Silver Hawks logo used in the mid-2000s, the circular badge frames the anniversary mark and connects the design to classic baseball tradition.
Classic Script Font: Drawn from the original Silver Hawks logo, the custom script lettering celebrates the early years of the franchise. Its nostalgic style brings a sense of movement, history, and tradition to the anniversary design.
SB Monogram: Positioned at the bottom of the logo, the SB monogram pays tribute to the original South Bend White Sox logo, which appeared on the team's baseball caps from 1988 through 1990.
Ruby-Inspired 40: The number “40” serves as the centerpiece of the design, featuring ruby-inspired shapes and coloring. Ruby is the traditional gemstone associated with a 40th anniversary, making it a fitting symbol for this milestone celebration.
Ivy: Growing from the bottom of the logo, the ivy is a familiar element of the current South Bend Cubs primary logo. Its inclusion represents growth, tradition, and the continued evolution of the franchise.
Crossed Bats: The crossed bats honor the original South Bend Silver Hawks logo used during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. That logo was intentionally designed to resemble a hood ornament, drawing inspiration from the classic Studebaker Silver Hawk automobile and celebrating South Bend’s automotive heritage.
Together, these elements create a visual tribute to the generations of players, fans, and families who have helped shape professional baseball in South Bend since 1988.
The unveiling of the 40th anniversary logo is just the beginning of a season-long celebration. The South Bend Cubs are planning additional events, promotions, and special activities to commemorate four decades of professional baseball in Michiana.
More details about the 2027 anniversary celebration will be announced in the coming months.
