Schwarber Homers Twice In Iowa's Win

DES MOINES - Kyle Schwarber drilled two home runs as the Iowa Cubs (36-44) executed a 7-3 defeat of the Round Rock Express (38-42) in front of 13,795 fans, Friday at Principal Park. It was the 10th-largest crowd in Principal Park history.  

Schwarber's first bomb came in the first inning as he lined a 2-2 pitch from Tyler Wagner over the right field wall to give Iowa the early lead. Round Rock would respond immediately as Will Middlebrooks drew a full-count walk from Seth Frankoff in the second and Ryan Rua followed with a two-run bomb to left that put Round Rock ahead.
Each team would add a run in the middle innings, with Round Rock staying ahead 3-2. In the eighth, Schwarber pushed the game to a tie with his second homer of the game, a long shot to right field. Iowa loaded the based behind the home run and Ali Soli was the hero, lining a two-RBI single to put Iowa on top. The I-Cubs added two more runs of insurance as they sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning.
Conor Mullee (1-0) earned the win for Iowa after spinning three flawless innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts. Fernando Rodriguez Jr. got the ball in the ninth after a 53-minute delay preceded the frame and secured the victory for Iowa.
Schwarber and Solis guided Iowa's offense, each going 2-for-4 with three and two RBI, respectively. Dominguez added a 3-for-4 game.
The I-Cubs and Express meet at Principal Park for a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 5:08 p.m. Game one will be a resumption of a suspended contest and will be picked up in the second inning. Game two will be seven innings. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
