DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Cincinnati Reds have announced that former National League All-Star 2B Scooter Gennett has been added to the Daytona Tortugas' roster on a Major League rehab assignment. He will be with the team throughout the three-game homestand as the Tortugas open up the season's second half against the Florida Fire Frogs on Monday night, June 17, at 7:05 p.m. ET.

Gennett starts his rehab assignment after being placed on the Reds' 10-day injured list on March 28 with a right groin strain. The 29-year-old was later transferred to the 60-day injured list on May 3. In 154 games with Cincinnati in 2018, Gennett accumulated an impressive .310 average (181-584) with 86 runs scored, 56 extra-base hits, 23 home runs, and 92 runs batted in. The left-handed swinger was named an NL All-Star, the NL's Player of the Month for May, chosen as the league's Player of the Week twice, and was selected as the Reds' recipient of the MLBPAA Heart and Hustle Award for 2018.
Acquired by the Reds off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers on March 28, 2017, Gennett has clubbed a pinch-hit home run in the 2018 MLB All-Star Game, as well as becoming the first player in Major League history to produce five hits, four home runs, and 10 runs batted in during the same game on June 6, 2017, against the St. Louis Cardinals, during his tenure in Cincinnati.
A resident of Parrish, Fla., Gennett played in the Florida State League as a Brewers' minor leaguer in 2011. At the age of 21 in 2011, the infielder accrued a .300 clip (167-556) with 74 runs scored, 35 extra-base knocks, nine home runs, and 51 RBI in 134 games for the now-defunct Brevard County Manatees. Gennett was named an FSL Mid-Season and Postseason All-Star during that campaign. He also appeared in two rehab games for Brevard County in 2016, going 2-for-6 at the plate.
Gennett was originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 16th round of the 2009 MLB Draft out of Sarasota (Fla.) High School.
