WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Sept. 3, 2019) - With Down East and Fayetteville preparing for their Southern Division Championship Series matchup, the Carolina League has honored Wood Ducks outfielder Julio Pablo Martinez as the Player of the Week and Woodpeckers right-hander Shawn Dubin as the Pitcher of the Week for the final week of the regular season, as announced Tuesday.
Martinez spent most of the season with the Woodies, and he capped the regular season with his best offensive stretch. The 23-year-old paced the Carolina League with 14 hits and 24 total bases and was tied for the circuit's lead with three home runs. He was also in the top 10 in OPS (3rd, 1.059) runs (T-3rd, seven), RBIs (T-5th, six) and batting average (6th, .378).

In 113 games with the Wood Ducks, Martinez posted a .248 average with 14 home runs and 58 RBIs. The Cuba native spent the season's first two weeks in Low-A Hickory, with whom he played 10 games.
Dubin was electric in his final two starts of the season, posting seven shutout innings last Tuesday in a victory at Carolina before blanking Down East over six innings in Monday's regular season finale. Over those 13 innings, Dubin scattered just two hits and struck out 20. During the final eight days of the regular season, only one pitcher in Minor League Baseball struck out more batters than Dubin, and it was his teammate Luis Garcia, who fanned 22 in 11 innings of work.
A former 13th-round pick by Houston, Dubin finished the regular season with a 6-5 record and a 3.92 earned run average with the Woodpeckers. Like Martinez, he started the season in Low-A before jumping to the Carolina League in late April.
Down East and Fayetteville will clash in the Southern Division Championship Series this week, while Salem and Wilmington will meet in the Northern Division Championship Series. Postseason play is scheduled to begin on Wednesday night.
