Sea Dogs drop series opener, 10-2 to Fisher Cats

Manchester, NH - Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit two homers and knocked in five runs, leading the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (18-9) to a 10-2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (7-19) on Monday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Portland received their lone runs on a two-run homer by Conrad Gregor in the fifth inning. Gregor snapped a 0-for-28 skid to start the season.
Sean Reid-Foley (5-0) worked 5+ innings on two runs to earn the win for the Fisher Cats. Kevin McAvoy (0-10 pitched just four innings and took the loss for the Sea Dogs. McAvoy yielded six runs (five earned) on four hits, five walks, and two strikeouts.
Red Sox right-hander Tyler Thornburg made a Major League Rehab appearance, and worked a scoreless seventh, issuing a walk. Thornburg threw 17 pitches/11 strikes and could pitch with the Sea Dogs on Thursday at home against Binghamton.
Guerrero gave New Hampshire a lead right away, smacking a three-run shot three batters into the bottom of the first inning. The 'Cats added three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and Guerrero did damage again in the sixth. The top overall prospect in minor league baseball according to Baseball America, hit a two-run homer over Jake Cosart.
Cavan Biggio added a homer for New Hampshire, and Bo Bichette reached base four times.
Cole Sturgeon had two hits for the 'Dogs, improving his average to .378
The Sea Dogs and New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) play the middle game of their series on Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Righty Travis Lakins makes his third start of the year for Portland. New Hampshire is TBA on Tuesday.
