Sea Dogs hold on for a 4-2 win at Richmond

Richmond, VA - The Portland Sea Dogs (23-41) held on for a 4-2 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels (33-30) on Thursday night in front of 7,415 fans at the Diamond. Portland snapped a three-game losing streak, and head to Bowie, Maryland for a three-game weekend series.

Richmond, VA - The Portland Sea Dogs (23-41) held on for a 4-2 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels (33-30) on Thursday night in front of 7,415 fans at the Diamond. Portland snapped a three-game losing streak, and head to Bowie, Maryland for a three-game weekend series.

Portland led 4-0, but Richmond rallied in the ninth inning off Trevor Kelley. Jerry Sands hit a two-run double with the bases loaded to cut the Sea Dogs lead. Kelley retired the next three batters with two in scoring position to preserve the win.
Righty Mike Shawaryn (3-5) fired six scoreless frames on five hits and fanned seven to earn the win. Jordan Weems and Travis Lakins pitched scoreless innings of relief to earn holds.
Former Red Sox farmhand Shaun Anderson (L, 5-3) took the loss for Richmond. Josh Ockimey (2-for-3) delivered two runs in the first inning with a bases-loaded single. Anderson was acquired by the Giants last July 26th in the Eduardo Núñez trade. The righty worked six innings on six hits and two runs.
In the ninth inning, the 'Dogs scored two runs off Caleb Simpson. Chad De La Guerra drew a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch brought in the fourth run.
Catcher Austin Rei picked up his first Double-A third-hit game, finishing 3-for-4. 
The Sea Dogs open up a three-game weekend series with the Bowie Baysox (Baltimore Orioles affiliate) on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium with a 7:05 PM start. Lefty Dedgar Jimenez (1-5, 5.81) takes on Bowie lefty Keegan Akin (7-4, 2.62)
