Sea Dogs Lose Backyard Baseball Battle 8-6 to Rumble Ponies

Jack Winnay drove the offense as the lone Sea Dog with a multi-hit game, including a game-tying solo home run to center field in the seventh inning. Henry Godbout drove in a pair of runs with a clutch two-out single in the third inning.
RHP Caleb Bolden had an excellent outing, allowing no runs on one hit with no walks and five strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched.
Marco Vargas started the scoring for Binghamton in the first inning with a solo home run, his first of four hits and four RBI on the day. A Corey Collins sacrifice fly in the second inning extended Binghamton’s lead to 2-0.
In the bottom of the inning, the Sea Dogs put two runners on base, with a pair of walks. Will Turner singled to right field to drive in Johanfran Garcia, before a Nate Baez RBI groundout added another, and the game was tied 2-2.
Vargas’ second hit of the day put him on base for an eventual third inning sacrifice fly from Jacob Reimer, and the Rumble Ponies led 3-2.
Godbout’s two-RBI single with two outs in the third inning gave the Sea Dogs a one run lead.
The lead did not last long, as Binghamton plated three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, McDonough was hit by a pitch and Winnay singled to put runners on the corners. Brooks Brannon grounded into a double play, but it brought a run across.
Trailing by one, Jack Winnay launched a home run 421 feet to center field, tying the game with a swing of the bat.
Vargas once again came up clutch in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, he lifted a two-RBI single to center field, the game winning hit.
RHP Saul Garcia (1-1, 3.35 ERA) earned the win, allowing one run on one hit, Winnay’s homer, in 1.1 innings pitched. RHP Joe Vogatsky (1-3, 6.68 ERA) shouldered the loss, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks in 2.0 innings pitched. RHP Garrett Stratton (S, 3) earned the save.
On Tuesday, the Reading Fightin Phils come to town as the Sea Dogs continue their two-week homestand. Tuesday is Racing Night at the park presented by Wiscasset Speedway. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm at Delta Dental Park.
