JACKSON, Tenn. (August 3, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, gave up six runs in the second inning and were defeated 7-1 by the Jackson Generals Saturday night at the Ballpark at Jackson.
For the second straight game, Brandon Marsh scored the only Mobile (41-69 overall, 14-28 second half) run. Marsh reached on a two-base fielding error with two outs in the eighth and came home on a Jack Kruger single. Kruger finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.
However, the Generals (63-47, 24-16) jumped out to a big advantage early with a six-run second against Max Herrmann (0-2). Mark Karaviotis and Galli Cribbs both plated runs with bases-loaded walks, and L.T. Tolbert followed with an RBI single. Renae Martinez reached on an error to drive in the fourth run, and Pavin Smith followed with a two-run single.
Herrmann gave up just one additional hit for the remainder of his five-inning start.
Emilio Vargas tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed just three hits to earn the win for the Generals. Jackson starters have allowed just one run in 21 innings pitched this series.
