PEARL, Miss. (April 11, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, scored six runs in an inning for the second time in the past three games, rolling to a 7-5 win over the Mississippi Braves Thursday night at Trustmark Park.
Trailing 4-1 in the fifth, the BayBears (3-4) put a pair of runners on base to knock Mississippi starter Ian Anderson out of the game. Brandon Marsh , Jack Kruger , and Zach Houchins got RBI singles off southpaw Mike Mader (0-2), and Jhoan Urena hit a three-run homer. Mobile had a six-run inning in the series finale Monday against Pensacola.
Zack Kelly (1-0) pitched four scoreless innings of relief and struck out seven batters in his Double-A debut. He entered with two outs in the bottom of the third after Mississippi (2-4) scored four runs against BayBears starter Jeremy Beasley . Dario Beltre earned his first save, giving up just one hit in the final 2 1/3 innings.
Jahmai Jones recorded his first hit of the season, a single in the fifth, and drew a pair of walks. Jones was previously 0-for-22 and had not reached base in the first five games, outside of being the placed runner in extra innings twice.
Mobile's first run of the game was unearned, with Brandon Sandoval scoring on a Marsh groundout in the top of the third. It was Marsh's second two-RBI game of the season, and he also stole his fourth base in seven games.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Mississippi Friday at 6:35 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Matt Ball (0-0, 3.86 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against southpaw Kyle Muller (0-0, 0.00 ERA) for the Braves.
