Portland, Maine- Raudy Reed hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth off of Taylor Grover and the Harrisburg Senators (31-41) defeated the Sea Dogs (32-37) 6-5 in front of a sellout crowd on Saturday night at Hadlock Field.
Portland, Maine- Raudy Reed hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth off of Taylor Grover and the Harrisburg Senators (31-41) defeated the Sea Dogs (32-37) 6-5 in front of a sellout crowd on Saturday night at Hadlock Field.
Harrisburg trailed 5-4 after the Sea Dogs scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Grover came in for the potential save and walked Alec Keller to begin the inning. Two batters later, Reed homered over the Maine Monster for the game-winner. The benches briefly emptied after the home run, but no players were ejected.
Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Portland had Deiner Lopez on second with two outs. Michael Chavis hit an RBI single to left off of Ryan Brinley to score Lopez, then Henry Urrutia hit a double and Chavis scored from first to tie the game. Jake Romanski followed with a single to shallow left and Urrutia just barely slid in safely ahead of the throw from Yadiel Hernandez to give the Sea Dogs their first lead of the game at 5-4.
Brinley (4-4) earned the victory despite blowing the save in the eighth.
Harrisburg took an early lead with three runs off of Teddy Stankiewicz in the top of the first inning. Stankiewicz persevered and completed six innings while allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits. The quality start was Stankiewicz's team-leading eighth of the year.
Harrisburg starter Derek Eitel went five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits while walking five and striking out two.
The rubber match of the series takes place tomorrow afternoon at Hadlock Field, first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM. RHP Elih Villanueva (1-2, 10.67) is scheduled to start for Portland against RHP Taylor Hill (2-1, 6.00) of Harrisburg.
