With the MLB trade deadline on Monday, the Boston Red Sox have made a move to fortify the major league roster by acquiring infielder Eduardo Nunez from the San Francisco Giants.
Greenville Drive alum Shaun Anderson is one of the players on the move to the Giants organization. Anderson, a 3rd round pick out of the University of Florida last year, was the Drive's Opening Night starter in 2017, and he posted outstanding numbers in his short stint in Greenville. The right-hander went 3-0 with a 2.56 ERA in seven starts, allowing three runs or less in six of those appearances.
As a reward for his terrific April, Anderson was selected by Drive fans as the Hale's Jewelers Player of the Month after going 2-0 with a 1.30 ERA in five starts. He was promoted from Greenville to the Salem Red Sox on May 15th.
Right-handed pitcher Gregory Santos, a member of the DSL Red Sox, is also heading to the Giants system in the trade.
Nunez hit .308 for the Giants over 76 games this season, and he has started games at third base, shortstop, left field and right field.
