WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento River Cats (29-31) fell to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (34-21) 9-3 on Wednesday night, despite the return of Giants' number two prospect and team home run leader, outfielder Chris Shaw.
Right-handed pitcher Tyler Beede struck out four batters in 5.1 innings pitched, but tied a season-high with six walks and allowed seven earned runs, three of them coming from Oklahoma City homers. Despite a rough night on the hill, however, Beede did record his first hit of the season, an RBI single in the second inning to put the River Cats on the board.
Ronnie Freeman led the way offensively for Sacramento, going 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Myles Schroder doubled and scored two runs on the evening and Steven Duggar smacked his third triple, but it was not enough to keep up with the Dodgers offense.
The River Cats will go for the series win tomorrow as righty Casey Kelly (5-4, 5.65) takes the mound, facing off against fellow right-handed pitcher Tyler Pill (0-2, 5.22). Additional Notes
· After missing 18 games due to a groin injury, Chris Shaw returned from the disabled list on Wednesday night and went 1-for-5 with a single and two strikeouts.
· With his RBI fielder's choice in the seventh inning, outfielder Austin Slater is now tied with Shaw for the most RBI on the River Cats this season with 30.
· Beede's RBI-single in the second inning was his first hit since July 6, 2017, and first RBI since 2016 when he was with Double-A Richmond.
