Shaw shouldered the offensive load for the River Cats, homering in the fourth inning for the team's only run. The 405-foot blast not only broke up Fresno starter Dean Deetz's shutout, but it also ended his no-hit bid. In his last 10 games, Shaw is hitting .421 (16-for-38) with four home runs, three doubles, and 10 RBI. Activated off the disabled list today, shortstop Christian Arroyo made his first start with Sacramento since June 14 but was forced to exit in the fifth after being hit by a pitch in the left hand.
Starter Tyler Beede toiled to get through 3.2 innings tonight as the right-hander threw 90 pitches (48 strikes) with a career-high six walks. He gave up five runs (four earned) before being relieved by the newest River Cats' bullpen arm, Collin Balester. Tyler Rogers highlighted the relievers tonight with two scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit. Rogers' 33 appearances are second most in the PCL and he will represent Sacramento at this year's Triple-A All-Star game in Tacoma.
The River Cats are expected to activate left-hander Matt Gage (0-0. 0.00) tomorrow for his first career Triple-A start. The Grizzlies will counter with right-hander David Martinez (4-7, 4.62).
