Singles aplenty but River Cats fall to Sounds

NASHVILLE, TN - The Sacramento River Cats (45-69) managed to match the Nashville Sounds' (58-55) hit total, but were outscored 6-0 while being handed their fifth straight loss.

The River Cats had no problem getting on base on Monday, as they collected nine hits and two walks in the ballgame. However, all of their hits went for singles, highlighted by a 3-for-4 night from Peter Bourjos and two hits from Chris Shaw.
After allowing a run in the first inning, River Cats starter Shaun Anderson retired 11 consecutive batters before allowing a solo home run in the fifth. Anderson faced three batters in the seventh without getting an out, however, and gave way to the bullpen before Nashville added four runs to pull away for the 6-0 victory.
The River Cats will try to salvage the final game of the series against the Sounds on Tuesday. Sacramento will send right-hander Tyler Herb (1-4. 5.73) to the mound and Nashville will counter with fellow righty James Naile (6-10, 4.58). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. (PT). Additional Notes
· Bourjos recorded his first three-hit game for Sacramento. The speedy outfielder has tallied six two-hit games and one four-hit performance in 21 games played for the River Cats.
· The River Cats again struggled in key situations, going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and leaving nine runners on base. Monday night was the seventh time the River Cats have been shut out since June 1.
