BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, snapped a four-game losing streak on Thursday night with a 13-1 pounding of the Birmingham Barons at Regions Field.

The win for the Generals (42-34, 3-4 Second Half) is their eighth in eleven games against Birmingham (36-39, 4-3 Second Half), and it featured their largest margin of victory in 2018.
With the score even at 1-1, a run-scoring single by Josh Prince broke the tie in the fourth and cranked the Generals offense into gear. A sacrifice fly from Tyler Ladendorf made the lead 3-1, and two-out walks from Daniel Robertson and Kevin Medrano helped extend the frame, chasing Birmingham starter Alec Hansen (0-2, 8.03 ERA) from the game. Birmingham's defense did them no favors, as four runs scored because of consecutive defensive miscues. Domingo Leyba reached on an error at first base that allowed a pair of runs to come home, and Marty Herum followed with a single, ultimately winding up at third base as an error in right field helped bring in two more Jackson runs for a 7-1 Generals advantage.
Herum finished with a pair of hits and an RBI in his first game back from the disabled list, and Jamie Westbrook recorded a 3-for-5 night at the plate, including his team-leading 12th home run of the season. The Generals won despite the top three men in their batting order going 1-for-13.
Joel Payamps (6-2, 2.80 ERA) continued his recent success by firing his longest outing of the year, finishing seven innings on 87 pitches with nine strikeouts. The 24-year-old Dominican right-hander did not walk a batter and allowed just one run, marking his fourth straight start with two or fewer runs allowed. Bud Jeter and Kevin Ginkel allowed no runs over the final two frames.
