PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (June 1, 2018) - Six members of the Charlotte Stone Crabs were named to the Florida State League's Southern Division All-Star Team, the league office announced Friday.
Shortstop Lucius Fox , first baseman Nathaniel Lowe , right-handed pitcher Willy Ortiz , catcher David Rodríguez , outfielder Jesús Sánchez and utility player Robbie Tenerowicz were all named to the circuit's All-Star roster. They will represent the Southern Division in the Florida State League All-Star Game on Saturday, June 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.
Fox, 20, has hit leadoff for the Stone Crabs in all 42 games he's played, batting .294 with a team-high 10 stolen bases. The Rays' No. 7 prospect, Fox ranks third on the team in hits (60) and has reached base at a .362 clip. The Nassau, Bahamas native was named the Fastest Baserunner in the Tampa Bay system by Baseball America.
Lowe, 22, has been the been the circuit's most consistent hitter over the first two months of the season, leading the FSL in batting average (.377), RBI (43), hits (67), doubles (15), on-base percentage (.451), slugging percentage (.626), extra-base hits (25), total bases (112) and runs scored (38). He places second in home runs (10). The Mississippi State product was named the league's Player of the Month for April.
Ortiz, 22, leads the league in opponents' batting average (.199) and places top-10 in ERA (3.19). The Dominican Republic native is a perfect 4-0, allowing just 31 hits and 17 walks in 42.1 innings (1.13 WHIP). The right-hander boasts the top qualifying ERA on the team and is the only pitcher with at least 20 innings that hasn't lost a game.
Rodriguez, 22, hit .317 with 11 extra-base hits and 20 RBI over 28 games before being promoted to Double-A Montgomery on May 22. The team's primary catcher, Rodriguez batted .371 with 12 RBI in 16 games in the month of April (.965 OPS).
Sanchez, 20, appears in the top five in the FSL in six different categories, including batting average (.337), hits (60) and slugging percentage (.522). A top-60 prospect in baseball, Sanchez was named a Midwest League Midseason and Postseason All-Star after batting .305 with 15 home runs and 82 RBI for Low-A Bowling Green in 2017.
Tenerowicz, 23, makes his second consecutive all-star team after batting .295 for over 94 games for the Hot Rods in 2017. This year, Tenerowicz is batting .301 with 24 RBI over 37 games. The Cal product is the fourth hardest hitter to strike out in the league, fanning just once per every 8.32 plate appearances.
