JACKSON, Tenn. (July 29, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, trailed by just one run after five innings but were defeated by the Jackson Generals 8-1 in the series finale Saturday night at the Ballpark at Jackson.
Alex Klonowski (5-6) took the loss, but he retired 13 straight batters after giving up a solo home run to Victor Reyes in the first inning. However, the Generals (55-50 overall, 18-17 second half) plated an unearned run in the fifth and four runs in the sixth.
Ryan Atkinson (1-0) earned the win in his Double-A debut. He gave up just one run on five hits with six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings pitched. Forrestt Allday drove in Josè Briceño with a two-out infield single in the second inning for Mobile's (45-58, 15-19) only run.
Jackson broke the tie with a pair of two-out infield singles and two throwing errors in the fifth inning. The Generals tallied six runs on five hits in the sixth, including a two-run double by former BayBear Jaime Westbrook.
The BayBears return home to Hank Aaron Stadium to begin a six-game home series against the Mississippi Braves Sunday at 5:05 p.m. CT.
