While a crowd of 1,487 enjoyed a beautiful evening in downtown Beloit, the Sky Carp fell 11-0 to Cedar Rapids in the opener of their six-game series.
Beloit was held to just three hits, two of them by Victor Mesa Jr., while the Kernels pounded out 11 extra-base hits.
The Kernels scored a run in the third, fourth in the sixth and three more in the fifth, finally adding a ninth-inning tally to cap the scoring.
Beloit struck out 14 times in the game, while Sky Carp pitchers sent down 10 Kernels via the K.
The two teams will meet again Wednesday, with a special starting time of 7:35 p.m. Gates will open at 6:30.
