LANSING, Mich. -- The Sky Carp finished their series with Lansing with an even split after losing 4-1 Sunday afternoon.
The Carp fell despite out-hitting the Lugnuts 11-5. Three Sky Carp errors contributed to three of the Lugnuts' four runs being unearned.
The Carp received a strong pitching perfromance from starting pitcher Jake Books. He allowed just one unearned run in five innings of work. Woo-Suk Go, on a rehab, on a rehab assignment from AAA Jacksonville, pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the visitors.
The Lugnuts scored a run in the first, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take a 4-0 lead. The Carp secured its lone tally in the ninth inning on a solo home run by Echedry Vargas, his first of the season.
Payton Green continued his outstanding season with the Sky Carp with three hits, and Vargas joined him on the three-hit parade. Garret Forrester and Michael Snyder each added a pair of knocks to the cause.
The team will return home Tuesday for the first of a six-game series with the Fort Wayne TinCaps. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. It's Bark at the Park Tuesday, where fans can bring their dogs to the game!
