Syracuse and Rochester found themselves in a pitching duel to start off Saturday's contest as both starters cruised through the first three innings. As the game headed to the top of the fourth, Syracuse starter Erick Fedde's night was over as he was replaced by Dustin Antolin.
Fedde faced the minimum nine batters in his three innings pitched, allowing no hits, runs or walks and struck out four on 37 pitches, 25 for strikes.
The Red Wings scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Niko Goodrum and Tommy Field each walked, Goodrum reached third on a flyout to right. With two outs in the inning and runners on the corners, Antolin delivered a wild pitch to the backstop, allowing Goodrum to score and give Rochester an early 1-0 lead. During the same at-bat, ByungHo Park sent a ball to the gap in center, as his second triple of the season scored Field and added to the Red Wings lead, 2-0.
Red Wings starter Aaron Slegers found himself in trouble in the top of the seventh, as back-to-back hits by Syracuse gave the Chiefs runners on first and third with one out. Slegers was able to escape with no damage however, as a popout behind home and a groundout kept the lead intact.
Slegers gave Rochester 7.2 strong innings of work on the mound, giving up seven hits, no runs, no walks and striking out three batters on 93 pitchers-68 for strikes. He was then relieved by Jake Reed. Reed worked 1.1 innings and picked up his third save.
Winning Pitcher: Aaron Slegers (9-4)
Losing Pitcher: Dustin Antolin (2-4)
Save: Reed (3)
