Sod Poodles Release Opening Night Roster

Six of the Arizona Diamondbacks Top 30 Prospects to Start in Amarillo

AMARILLO, Texas (April 5, 2024) – Today in conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Amarillo Sod Poodles released their 2024 Opening Night Roster. AMARILLO, Texas (April 5, 2024) – Today in conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Amarillo Sod Poodles released their 2024 Opening Night Roster. The defending Texas League Champions will start the season with six of the D-backs’ Top-30 prospects (MLB Pipeline), including No. 4-rated prospect, Yu-Min Lin. The left-handed pitching prospect will also serve as the Opening Night starter for the Sod Poodles as they open the 2024 season against the San Antonio Missions (Double-A, San Diego Padres). Fellow top-30 prospects include INF Ivan Melendez (no.8), INF Deyvison De Los Santos (no. 14), OF A.J. Vukovich (no.15), RHP Yilber Diaz (no. 16), and catcher Caleb Roberts (no. 30).

Twenty-one of the initial 28 players on the active roster spent some time in Amarillo during the 2023 season and 16 of the players were on the Sod Poodles 2023 Playoff Roster that culminated in the club’s second Texas League Championship in four seasons. Vukovich returns to Amarillo after breaking the single-season RBI record a season ago with 96. He enters the 2024 season as the Sod Poodles All-Time RBI leader with 105 after appearing in 126 career games with Amarillo since the end of the 2022 season. Roberts, a 2023 Texas League All-Star returns after setting the single-season OBP record, reaching base at a .382 clip in 97 games in 2023.

The only Lone Star State native on the initial roster is Ivan Melendez. The El Paso native appeared in 38 games for the Sod Poodles in 2023.
