TULSA, OK (August 18, 2026) -- The Amarillo Sod Poodles (24-22, 60-54) fell to the Tulsa Drillers (28-18, 74-41), 8-6, in 10 innings on Tuesday night at ONEOK Field. The Soddies were able to force extras after finding themselves down to their last strike, but a walk-off home run from one of the highest-ranked prospects in baseball spoiled the comeback effort.

The first two frames belonged to the pitchers on the hill as Wellington Aracena needed only 22 pitches to post consecutive three-up three-down innings to open play for the Sod Poodles. After Amarillo drew a pair of walks to open the top of the third, Cristofer Torin bunted the runners over to second and third. Avery Owusu-Asiedu then swatted a pitch up in the zone the other way, driving in the first run of the night for either side. The ball was misplayed by the Tulsa right fielder on the play which allowed a second run to jog home and give Owusu-Asiedu a free 90 feet. In the following at-bat, Jansel Luis took a cut at Adam Serwinowski’s 1-0 offering and bounced it over the left-center field wall for an RBI ground-rule double, capping the three-run Amarillo third.

Despite two quick strikeouts by Aracena in the home third, a ground-rule double by Kole Myers preceded a Taylor Young single that put the Drillers on the board. After a scoreless fourth and the Soddies going down in order in the fifth, Chris Newell blasted a solo homer to lead off the bottom half. With a runner aboard later in the frame, Myers lined one down the right field line to sneak it inside the foul pole and over the wall for a two-run homer, giving Tulsa the 4-3 lead.

Druw Jones walked on four pitches to open the sixth, moving up to second on a balk. A groundout allowed Jones to advance to third and with the newly added Danny Serretti at the dish for Amarillo, the switch-hitter drove one to center field for a game-tying double.

The bases were walked full of Drillers before Josue De Paula drove one to deep right field for a sac fly and the Tulsa lead in the seventh. Antonio Menendez did his part to prevent further damage and kept the Sod Poodles within a run over 1.2 scoreless, hitless innings. With two outs in the ninth, Torin singled and advanced on a throwing error, representing the tying run. Still down to their last out, the hot stick of Owusu-Asiedu stepped up to the dish with a chance to even the score and came through with two strikes by singling up the middle to knot the game at five. As Will Mabrey retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth, the game went to extras.

With two outs in the top of the 10th, Alberto Barriga lined the first pitch he saw in his plate appearance to center field for a single that brought in Luis and put Amarillo in front for the first time since the fifth inning. The lead would be short-lived, however, as De Paula blasted an 0-1 pitch to deep right-center for a walk-off three-run bomb to defeat the Sod Poodles, 8-6 in 10 innings.
