FREDERICK, MD-The Frederick Keys promotional schedule promises not to disappoint in 2019. This year's star-studded schedule features an appearance by Stanley Hudson from The Office, to go with a WWE Hall of Famer and one of Minor League Baseball's favorite traveling shows. Fans should also get pumped for two bobbleheads, three shirsey giveaways and a host of special Keys jerseys and hats throughout the season. The crown jewel of this year's promo schedule is the Carolina League All-Star Classic presented by Visit Frederick on Tuesday, June 18.
"We are incredibly excited for the start of the 2019 Frederick Keys baseball season and are really psyched about this year's promotional schedule," said Keys General Manager, Dave Ziedelis. Each year our goal is to include something on the promotional calendar that will appeal to everyone. When you add in the Carolina League All-Star Classic presented by Visit Frederick, 2019 figures to be a year Keys faithful will not forget."
By popular demand, the Keys will be hosting The Office Night on Saturday, August 10 at 6 p.m. The night will be headlined by Leslie David Baker, who played the popular Stanley Hudson on the show. Baker will sign autographs on the concourse from 6-8 p.m., while fans should stay tuned for more information about an exclusive VIP package.
To go with this appearance, the first 1,000 fans will receive a Dylan Bundy Dundie sponsored by Flying Dog Brewery. A Gold Derby TV Award winner for "Ensemble of the Year" with The Office and a Screen Actors Guild Award nominee, Baker was known for his sarcastic sense of humor when playing the role of Hudson. To go with his role on The Office, Baker has also appeared in Key and Peele, That 70's Show, Malcolm in the Middle and Just Shoot Me!
Also slated for August is Wrestling Night featuring an appearance by legendary, Jake "The Snake" Roberts. He drops by Nymeo Field on Saturday, August 31 and will participate in a Meet and Greet and autograph session from 5-7 p.m. Known for bringing snakes into the ring (most notably a python) Roberts was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in April 2014.
For the second straight year, a pair of athlete appearances are on the books for Family Fitness Weekend, presented by Premiere Dental Arts. On Friday, May 17, former Washington Capitals right winger, Mike Knuble comes to town. Rescheduled for 2019 after his appearance last year was rained out, Knuble does an autograph session from 6-8 p.m. A 16-year NHL veteran, Knuble suited up for the Capitals from 2009-11 and was a member of the Red Wings 1997-98 Stanley Cup team.
One day later, Redskins greats Vernon Davis and Gary Clark do an autograph session from 5-7 p.m. Sponsored by PMSi, Davis is a two-time All-Pro selection and past Super Bowl champion with the Denver Broncos. Clark returns to Frederick for 2019 following an enthusiastic reception last season. A two-time Super Bowl champion with the Redskins, Clark is also a member of the organization's Ring of Fame.
A staple of Frederick Keys promotional schedule, Team Ghostriders and the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo returns to Frederick for the eighth straight season. Tim 'Wild Thang' Lepard and his band of capuchin monkeys return on Friday, May 31. A spectacle that never disappoints, the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo features monkeys dressed like cowboys riding dogs as though they were horses while herding goats. Team Ghostriders does a full show after the game and several teasers throughout the night.
Great giveaways are featured throughout the season. In addition to the Bundy Dundie on August 10 (a nod to the Dundie awards handed out by Dunder Mifflin Scranton regional manager Michael Scott on The Office) the first 1,000 fans through the gates on July 26 receive a Nick Markakis All-Star bobblehead. Presented by Certa Advisors, the former Keys and Orioles outfielder was the MVP of the last all-star game held in Frederick during the 2005 season. Gates open at 6 p.m. for this hot ticket item.
Three shirseys are slated for 2019. On April 5, Frederick native, Branden Kline is honored with his own shirsey giveaway sponsored by Window Genie. This unique t-shirt will be a split Frederick Keys/Governor Thomas Johnson High School shirt. Before being drafted by the Orioles and prior to a standout career at the University of Virginia, Kline was one of the top pitchers in Frederick County high school history while playing for the Patriots.
In preparation for the Carolina League All-Star Classic presented by Visit Frederick, the first 1,000 fans through the gates receive a Carolina League All-Star Classic t-shirt sponsored by Nymeo. One other shirt giveaway is scheduled for Friday, June 28 courtesy of Hillside Turkey Farms. The details about this shirsey and the individual picked, will be announced at a later time.
As always, fans can expect a batch of exciting specialty jersey and hat auctions throughout 2019. On May 11, the team will wear special Woodstock-themed jerseys. Featuring tie-dye down the sides of the jersey and the Woodstock poster on the front, proceeds raised benefit Sophie and Madigan's Playground. Saturday, July 13, marks a first for the Keys who will change their name for one night from the Frederick Keys to the "Frederick Cheese" (say Frederick Keys repetitively and this will start to make sense). Money raised from this jersey auction goes to Play4TheCure.
The final two jersey auctions occur Friday, August 9 and Friday, August 30. First is a Cancer Awareness Night jersey, featuring names of loved ones lost or affected by cancer. All funds raised go to the American Cancer Society. As always, the latter is a special Art in the Park jersey designed by a local artist, with all money going to the Frederick Arts Council.
July includes two different hat auctions. On July 3, the team sports patriotic caps as part of Stars and Stripes Night. Proceeds raised from the hat auction goes to the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes. Then on July 28, the Keys will wear a purple and black hat with a galaxy print as part of Blast off with Baseball Night, benefiting Heartly House.
The Keys have become well known for some of the best fireworks shows in Maryland. and this year 23 shows are scheduled. These take place following Friday and Saturday night games as well as other select dates throughout the season. This includes Tuesday, June 18 (after the Carolina League All-Star Classic presented by Visit Frederick), Wednesday, July 3 and Sunday, September 1.
STEM Day and Scout Night return for the 2019 campaign. Local students can learn about careers in science, technology, engineering and math through baseball and a variety of concourse booths on Thursday, May 23. First pitch is at 11 a.m. and is sponsored by AstraZeneca. Local scout troops are invited to Nymeo Field on Saturday, June 1. After the game, youngsters and scout leaders can enjoy a movie and camp out on the field.
Young fans will have plenty of chances to come games and get up close and personal with Keys players during this season. The Report Card Program sponsored by Miss Utility allows kids who bring in a report card featuring an "A" grade (or whatever is comparable) or a grade improvement to receive two FREE tickets to Keys game. Tickets can be used for any April or May game.
Youngsters can also take part in Keys Baseball Camp sponsored by MMI - The Center for Advanced Orthopaedics. These sessions take place from 9-12 each day and include lunch, a camp t-shirt and autograph session. This year's sessions run from July 1-3 and August 6-8.
All fans can meet Keys players and staff and get autographs at one of three Meet the Team events throughout the season. These take place one hour before first pitch on April 7, July 14 and August 18.
Single-game tickets go on sale on Friday, March 29 at 10 a.m. Information regarding single-game Carolina League All-Star Game tickets will be announced at a later date. Individuals who purchase a Keys ticket plan are eligible to purchase all-star game tickets and also receive their choice of a Ryan Mountcastle bobblehead or a Carolina League All-Star Classic hat presented by Visit Frederick.
