Stripers Doomed by the Longball, Fall 6-3 to Jacksonville in Six-Inning Contest

LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia – The Gwinnett Stripers (18-17, 56-53) took an early 1-0 lead, but two three-run homers propelled the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (13-21, 55-53) to a 6-3 win in six innings on Wednesday night at Gwinnett Field. The series is tied 1-1.

Decisive Plays: Jair Camargo drove in the first run of the ballgame on a second-inning RBI single. In the third inning, Andrew Pintar struck for a three-run homer (10) to give Jacksonville a 3-1 lead. In the top of the fifth, another three-run blast came for the Jumbo Shrimp courtesy of Gage Miller (6) to extend the lead to 6-1. In the bottom of the fifth, the Stripers got a pair of runs back thanks to an RBI single by Kyle Farmer and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Carlos Santana. After Jacksonville was retired in the top of the sixth, a rain delay began and led to the game being ruled final at 6-3.

Key Contributors: Camargo (1-for-2, RBI) and Farmer (1-for-3, RBI) notched the two RBI hits for Gwinnett. For Jacksonville, Pintar (2-for-3, homer, 3 RBIs) and Miller (1-for-1, homer, 3 RBIs) drove in all six runs. Patrick Monteverde (W, 3-2) tossed a rain-shorted 5.0-inning complete game (7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) for the Jumbo Shrimp.

Noteworthy: Blake Burkhalter threw 1.0 scoreless inning for the Stripers, extending his scoreless streak to 15 games (19.1 innings) between Gwinnett and Double-A Columbus dating back to June 17. Patrick Clohisy went 1-for-3 atop the order, giving him hits in 16 of 19 games with an at-bat since joining the Stripers on July 11. Luke Williams went 0-for-2, snapping his 17-game on-base streak.
