MOBILE, Ala. (June 4, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning but fell 3-2 to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Sunday evening at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Jaime Barria (0-1) took the loss in his Double-A debut despite an impressive outing. The 20-year-old gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings pitched.
Trailing 3-0 in the seventh, Zach Houchins drove in two runs with a double. However, Jimmy Herget got the Blue Wahoos (32-24) out of jams in the both the seventh and eighth en route to an eight-out save, his longest outing of the season. Herget leads the Southern League with 15 saves.
Tyler Mahle (7-2) earned his league-best seventh win of the year, allowing two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings. He retired the side in order in five different frames.
Alex Blandino drove in two of the three Pensacola runs with a pair of RBI doubles. Aristides Aquino provided the other run of support with a solo homer in the sixth inning. Aquino has homered in three consecutive games against Mobile (24-32).
Forrestt Allday went 1-for-4 with a single in the seventh, extending his on-base streak to 33 games. Allday has now matched the longest streak in the league this season.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Pensacola Monday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Right-hander Alex Blackford (1-2, 3.54 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty José López (0-0, 7.71 ERA) for the Blue Wahoos.
