Strong Pitching on Display as Rainiers Halt Week-Long Skid in Sacramento

Sacramento, Calif. --Mike Wright delivered strong five innings, and the Rainiers got a pair of late-inning home runs from Jaycob Brugman and Chris Mariscal to end a season-long seven-game losing streak on Saturday night against the Sacramento River Cats at Raley Field.
The win pushes Tacoma's record to 49-57. Sacramento, on the other hand, drops to 57-49. Mike Wright (1-2) earned his first win of 2019 for the Rainiers. Enderson Franco (5-5) took the loss for the River Cats.
The Rainiers put runs on the board first, starting the scoring in the first inning. Tacoma sent home a pair of runs off Sacramento River Cats pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Connor Kopach, and the other on an RBI knock from Eric Filia.

The River Cats failed to tack on any runs before the Rainiers built on their lead in the seventh inning. Tacoma picked up a run on Jaycob Brugman's leadoff home run off Travis Bergen, bringing the score to 3-0 in favor of the Rainiers.
Sacramento narrowed Tacoma's lead to 3-2 until Tacoma in the ninth inning. The Rainiers scored twice on Mariscal's two-run homer.
Aaron Northcraft tossed a shutout bottom half of the ninth to secure the victory for Tacoma, earning his first save.
Wright made the start for the Rainiers and threw five shutout innings, allowing two hits, with no walks and three punch-outs.
Tacoma was led by Mariscal, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs while walking once, marking the sixth time Mariscal has gone yard this season. Brugman put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a home run and an RBI, his fourteenth long ball of the year. Kopach also chipped in for the Rainiers, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Brandon Brennan was excellent out of the bullpen in a rehab appearance, throwing one shutout inning while limiting Sacramento to no hits, walking one, and striking out two.
Overall, Tacoma pushed across their five runs in the contest off of eight hits, four of which went for extra bases, including two home runs. The Rainiers also drew two free passes from Sacramento pitchers.
The Rainiers wrap up their series with the River Cats on Sunday at 1:05 PM PDT at Raley Field.
