In a battle of the two first half champions, Vancouver picked up their first win against Hillsboro on the season. Things got off to a weird start In game two of the series against the Canadians. Vancouver scored on a passball and then an RBI Ground Rule Double by first baseman David Jacobs. Tyler Vail made his Hops debut as well, striking out the side in the first inning. Hops shortstop Camden Duzenack picked up where he left off, lining a ball up the middle for a single then stealing a base. Pavin Smith would pick up his 17th RBI on a single to drive in Duzenack.

Canadian centerfielder Reggie Pruitt added a run with the rare inside the park home run, showing the speed that led him to 20 stolen bases in the first half.
The Hops had men in scoring position in the fifth; following a Jorge Perez walk and Luis Lara's first hit with Hillsboro. With Pavin Smith up, Lara and Perez pulled off a well timed double steal to get to second and third, but the Hops could not convert the scoring opportunity.
Hops backstop Tim Susnara continued his solid night at the plate by doubling in the bottom of the sixth and was swiftly driven in by infielder Ryan Dobson.
Luis Castillo entered after Tyler Vail, who had a very solid debut, tossing six innings of three run ball while striking out ten.
The Canadians would pick up a big run in the top of the seventh, Designated Hitter Kacy Clemens, a Texas Longhorn and son of the great Roger Clemens, doubled in Pruitt on a ball to left center field.
The Canadian bullpen was solid, throwing six innings of four hit, one run baseball.
Something to note:
The Hops would leave seven men on base, going two for ten with runners in scoring position. It has also been nine games since the Hops last home run, the Hops are five and fourin that time, so the absence of the long ball has not hurt the team too much.
Hopping around:
Since the All-Star Game, the Hops have seen some familiar faces move around. Pitchers Riley Smith and Connor Grey, as well as infielders Eudy Ramos and Yan Sanchez were moved up to Kane County. Jefferson Mejia and Luis Madero were both traded for Major Leaguers Adam Rosales and David Hernandez.
The Hops continue the series against Vancouver tomorrow at 4:05 pm. Catch the game on MiLB.tv and 620 AM Rip City Radio, pregame show begins at 3:30.
