ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists played their third straight Sunday double-header at McCormick Field and split the two games with the Winston-Salem Dash. Asheville dropped the first contest 9-3 before rebounding to defeat Winston-Salem in the second game 9-4. The double-header split secured a series split where both teams won three games in the six-game set.

The Dash jumped out to a 2-0 lead in Game One before Luke Berryhill plated Freudis Nova with an RBI double in the home half of the first inning. Jagger Rusconi's Grand Slam gave Winston-Salem a 6-1 lead in the second and Asheville was never able to recover. The Tourists received an RBI triple from Justin Dirden in the fourth and Dirden added a sacrifice fly in the sixth; however, it would not be enough. Asheville finished the first game with only three hits although they did work seven walks in the game. Freylin Garcia made his Tourists debut and tossed a perfect seventh inning.

Game Two favored the home team. Even though Asheville fell behind 2-0 once again, the offense rallied in the middle innings. Zach Daniels hit a game-tying two-run single in the third and the Tourists exploded for five runs in the fourth. Enmanuel Valdez hit a go-ahead RBI double and JC Correa's three-run double created the separation. Valdez added a solo Home Run in the fifth; his 20th long ball of the year.

Danny Cody and Alfredi Jimenez combined to pitch all seven innings of game two. Cody retired seven of the first eight batters he faced while Jimenez sat down seven of the last eight Dash hitters in the contest. The duo combined to strike out eight.

Next up for Asheville is a 12-game road trip that begins on Tuesday night against the Aberdeen IronBirds. The first pitch is slated for 7:05pm.
