LYNCHBURG, Va. (May 5, 2018) - Matt Swarmer threw 6.2 scoreless innings and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans' bullpen hung on late on Saturday in a 2-1 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats from Calvin Falwell Field.
The reigning Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April, Swarmer (3-2) was rewarded with the win for his efforts. The right-hander struck out seven over his 6.2 innings while only ceding four hits and not walking a batter. 

Wyatt Short tossed 1.1 innings, allowing just one unearned run on a hit. He struck out two and walked one. Tyler Peyton yielded just one hit in the ninth to earn his first save of the season. 
Myrtle Beach (12-17) took charge early with a run in the fourth inning to take the lead. With two outs, Austin Upshaw singled home Jhonny Pereda to make it 1-0. 
Following a lead-off double by Andruw Monasterio , who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two walks, Pereda bashed an RBI single through the right side to give the Birds a 2-0 lead. 
In the eighth inning, Lynchburg (13-15) fought back with a run of their own when Erlin Cerda scored on an error to make it 2-1 Pelicans.
Hillcats' starter Sam Hentges (2-1) allowed two runs over four-plus innings in the loss.
Wladimir Galindo  picked up three hits Saturday after a two-hit effort in Friday's series opener.
The Pelicans meet with Lynchburg for Sunday's 2 p.m. series finale. The Pelicans will send LHP Jose Paulino (0-3, 10.59 ERA) against Hillcats RHP Zach Plesac (1-2, 5.81 ERA). Coverage begins at 1:45 p.m. on MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/Broadcast, TuneIn and the MiLB First Pitch app.
