EL PASO, TX - The Tacoma Rainiers front office was awarded Minor League Baseball's Golden Bobblehead Award for "Best Digital Campaign or Activation" for the development of their video series, This Is R City. Tacoma's submission was selected as one of five finalists for the award by Minor League Baseball (MiLB), and This Is R City was voted as the winner by fellow MiLB staff and executives at the 2019 Minor League Baseball Innovators Summit in El Paso, TX on Thursday.
This Is R City debuted in March and aimed to showcase the best of Tacoma, including many of the South Sound's prominent restaurants, shops, non-profits and even local historians and politicians.
"The Tacoma Rainiers want to be at the heart of everything Tacoma," said Creative Director Casey Catherwood in the team's presenting speech in El Paso. "This is bigger than baseball. This is giving people a reason to believe they have bought into something bigger than themselves. It's a shared spirit that pays tribute to where Tacoma has been and where it aims to go in the future."

To-date, the Rainiers have released seven episodes of content that has been shown in-stadium, on the team's social media platforms and on the organization's website, WeRTacoma.com.
The Rainiers were one of six MiLB teams to win a Golden Bobblehead Award this season, with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers claiming both "Best Theme Night" and "Best Overall Promotion." The attendees who voted were instructed to cast their votes based on creativity, execution and a measurement for success within teams' respective markets.
"Baseball gives us a great platform to tell stories about our city, and we're just getting started," said Tacoma Rainiers President Aaron Artman. "Kudos to Casey Catherwood, AJ Garcia, [multimedia specialist] Adam Wygle and the team for generating great content that speaks to the soul of Tacoma."
The organization will continue to produce This Is R City during the offseason and into the 2020 Tacoma Rainiers season, which begins April 9 at Cheney Stadium. To view the most recent episode of This Is R City, go to WeRTacoma.com, or subscribe to the We R Tacoma YouTube channel.
