Tampa Sets Season-Highs with 21 hits and 15 runs

TAMPA, FL - The Tortugas matched their worst loss in franchise history, falling, 15-0, to the Tampa Yankees Sunday afternoon at Steinbrenner Field. The Tortugas allowed a season-high 15 runs and 21 hits in the loss.
A day after scoring 20 runs in 14 innings, Daytona managed just five hits while getting shut out for the fifth time this season.
Meanwhile, Tampa dominated from the second inning. Nick Solak started the scoring barrage with a two-run homer off RHP Vladimir Gutierrez, his second of the year. The Yankees doubled their lead an inning later with the use of a Chris Gittens homer to right field. Tampa scored a pair of runs on four hits in each the second and third innings.
Tampa broke it open in the fourth inning, when they sent 12 to plate and scored seven times on six hits, chasing Gutierrez from the game. Gittens added another home run, this time a three run shot drilled more than 400 feet to left center field.
The Yankees added another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning against RHP Tanner Rainey, with the aid of five wild pitches, giving the game it's final score of 15-0.
Gutierrez (3-4) allowed nine runs and 12 hits in 3 1/3 innings, as his ERA jumped from 3.93 to 5.63. LHP Juan Martinez allowed three runs in 1 2/3 innings and Rainey surrendered three runs in his inning of relief. RHP Robert Stock tossed a scoreless seventh, while INF Blake Butler pitched a scoreless eighth with a strikeout of Tito Polo.
Daytona took two of three from Tampa and will now head to Charlotte to finish their week long road trip. RHP Jesús Reyes (4-1, 3.73) will get the ball for Daytona against RHP Eduar Lopez (3-4, 4.28). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM with the Metcare Pregame Show beginning at 6:20 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
