(Eastlake, OH) - The Midwest League and the Lake County Captains, Class-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, have announced that Captains first baseman Emmanuel Tapia and catcher Li-Jen Chu have been named to the Midwest League Post Season All-Star Team. The team was selected by the Field Managers of the sixteen Midwest League member clubs.
Tapia, 21, has been named the MWL All-Star first baseman. The left-handed slugger leads all of Class-A baseball with 25 home runs and is three long balls away from tying the Captains' single-season home run record of 28, set by Ryan Goleski in 2004. A native of Santo Domingo Centro, Dominican Republic, Tapia also leads the Midwest League in home run rate with a home run/at-bat ratio of 1/16.08. Tapia also leads the Captains with 64 RBI and sits third on the club with 18 doubles.

Tapia enjoyed his best run of success in June. The first baseman slugged eight home runs in 24 games, while posting a season-best .908 OPS. Last year with Short-Season Mahoning Valley, Tapia hit six homers all year in 59 games.
Chu, 23, has been named the MWL All-Star designated hitter. The Taichung, Taiwan native leads all qualified Captains hitters in batting average (.268) and on-base percentage (.340). Chu also leads the Captains in hits (110) and doubles (21). He ranks second on the Captains with 55 RBI and third in homers with 13.
Chu is thriving in his first full healthy campaign. The Taiwanese catcher signed with the Indians in 2012 and had never registered more than 139 plate appearances prior to this season. Chu has played in a career-high 110 games with a career-high 457 plate appearances. He has also posted career-best marks in home runs, doubles, RBI, hits and runs (49).
